Moms are busy & important people, & they deserve time for them…

Let’s face it, as a mom, you often put your kids first. It’s natures way of making sure our babies are cared for. However, sometimes our natural instinct can get in the way of keeping moms healthy. When mom isn’t her best, the whole family can feel affected.

Yoga is an easy way for expecting moms, postpartum moms, and moms of toddlers/kids to stay healthy and calm! Yoga can be done pretty much anywhere now too! People can find yoga videos via youtube or Netflix. They can purchase yoga programs at a local studio, and they can even find free yoga classes in most cities throughout the U.S. The harder part about all these options is finding the right class for you! Further, as a mom, finding the time. Below are 5 easy ways for moms to get practicing yoga today!

#1 - Watch an Online Video at Home or Work

As I mentioned before, you can find yoga videos on hundreds of sites — simply search “yoga videos” via Google! Hey… you can even find some on my website! With finding videos an easy task, practicing yoga should be easy too, right? Here are two ideas to consider: 1) Do yoga in the living room with your kids or after you put the kids to bed. 2) Do yoga over your lunch hour; see if a co-worker wants to join in! Having a buddy makes you less likely to bail out as well. Whether you are an expecting mom, a postpartum mom, or a mom of three, there are yoga videos to fit all kinds of needs! The best part about this idea is that its FREE!

#2 - Take a Prenatal Class

If you are a mom that’s expecting, taking a prenatal class by a certified teacher can be a wonderful way to feel connected and comfortable. Prenatal yoga is a great tool for moms who have anxiety about pregnancy, and/or have anxiety in general.

#3 - Take a Mommy-N-Me Class

If you have a toddler/kid at any age between 3-6, you can find several class offerings (if you live in the Twin Cities, you can find options via this website)! Mommy-N-Me classes are truly a fun and memorable experience. Moms don’t get a killer workout, but they still leave class feeling refreshed, stronger, and less-stressed! Any one of those three things can make a person smile from within!

#4 - Read a Yoga Picture Book

There are several wonderful children’s yoga books published and available for purchase! Reading a book with your child, followed by practicing postures from a story, are great ways to build on a relationship with your child, while also having fun and getting a little yoga practice in!

#5 - Listen to a Podcast

Maybe you don’t have any time throughout your day to practice yoga (with or without your kids). Also, maybe you just don’t have the energy to even think about moving/exercising. If that’s the case, try a simple and effortless option — Podcasts! You can download podcasts for free, and you can lay in bed listening to them. Maybe you listen to a mindfulness podcast, a meditation podcast, or even a yoga podcast as you visualize yourself doing postures. Anytime you allow you brain to calm down, take deep breaths, and become more present, your body thanks-you!

In short, being a mom is TRULY a job that requires a super-hero award! Each family, and each child, has their own unique stories filled with challenges, joys, laughter, and stressors. Being a mom who puts herself and her needs last is all too common. If you could even work on taking one day a week to become a healthier you, imagine how much happier your world would be!
