When was the last time you organized a play date for two siblings…

Maybe you plan stuff for siblings all the time, or maybe you just assume that your children are the best of friends because they are brothers/sisters. Either way, creating time for siblings to bond and socialize in healthy ways is extremely important in building a lasting friendship.

Psychology Today stated in a recent article titled, “12 Tips to Build a Stronger Sibling Bond” that siblings should be laughing, fighting, and playing together, as a way of creating a lasting relationship. Further, they state,

In many sibling relationships the rate of conflict can be high, but the fun times in the backyard and the basement more than balance it out. This net-positive (balance) is what predicts a good relationship later in life. In contrast, siblings who simply ignored each other and had less fighting, had a relationship that stayed cold and distant long term. If your children are having a hard time with each other, it’s natural that you focus on helping them learn to resolve their differences peacefully.”

Therefore, how do we as parents, help them resolve tiffs and play together in positive and peaceful ways? The answer… By helping them find common hobbies or activities that focus on them!

Yoga classes for kids are not only helpful in creating a healthy child, but they also are great options for sibling bonding!

In kids yoga classes, kids memorize poses, and make connections to real life objects and animals. They also move their body and focus their minds in healthy and energetic ways. Siblings playing at home don’t always have a monitored and creative way to play. They often have to come up with their own ideas, which is good, yet can create conflicts more easily. When siblings do yoga together, they are sharing a joy and an activity that makes them both feel confident and connected with one another.

Finally, yoga is a tool that kids can use as they grow up. Yoga can continue to be a thing siblings do together well into adulthood. You can’t say that about playing with Barbie Dolls, or Building Sand Dunes with toy trucks.

So in short, get your children in a yoga class today! I promise they will find joy in it together!
